Nepal Rebels Not to Return to Jungle Any More: Sharma

Kathmandu, May 22: A senior member of the Communist party of Nepal (Maoist) and one of the members of the Maoist talks team, Dinanath Sharma, has said that the rebel forces would l not return to jungle even if talks are not held with the government.
Sharma was addressing a public assembly held at the Shahid Stadium in Biratnagar on Saturday. He said, “The Maoists will launch different kinds of movements but not return to the jungles even if the government does not hold talks with us.”
He also blamed the government for not working favorably towards implementing the 12-point agreemen. He claimed that the government was falling into the "conspiracies being hatched by King and foreigners.”
Sharma said that the government should release all the political detainees and publicize the whereabouts of all disappeared people to create conducive environment for talks.
He said his party’s roadmap for talks with the government included agendas of the dismissal of the parliament, a round-table conference, interim constitution and the election to a Constituent Assembly.
“We do not support the present parliament, it should be dissolved at the earliest,” Sharma said, adding that “the structure of the Army — and not just its name — should be changed”.
He said his party was ready for unconditional management of arms if the government army also hands over arms to the people. However, he urged the government not to make the management of Maoist arms a big issue.
